At PMW, Inc., we offer complete gear box repair services for right angle or straight drive gear reducers and speed increasers used in cooling towers, waster water treatment, industrial mixers and agitators, extruders, turbine drives, pump drives, marine drives, conveyor drives and many other industrial applications. We offer our expertise in repairs, field consulting, troubleshooting, gear replacement (including spiral bevel gears) and modifications to your unit after discussions with your personnel. When a gear box arrives at our shop, the following steps are part of our standard procedures: - Digital photos are taken of each gear box as it is received
- The exterior of the gear box is cleaned
- All gears, shafts, and bearings are removed from the case
- Digital photos are taken of damaged parts as found
- All bearings and seals are removed from the shafts
- Clean all parts and case interior
- We mic all parts and use shop drawings or forms to record all dimensions
- All shafts are checked for straightness
- All gears are checked for re-use (includes mag particle or dye penetrant inspection as needed)
- After all inspections are complete, a detailed scope of work and quote (if needed) are prepared for customer approval
After approval is given to the repair scope, the following are some of the standard procedures we perform on a piece of equipment: - The exterior of the gear box is glass bead blasted and primed before any repairs are started
- All bearings, seals, o-rings and gaskets are replaced
- If new parts are to be manufactured, our in house personnel generated a cad drawing before the parts are released to the shop floor for manufacture
- We mic all parts, whether factory supplied or manufactured, to verify correct size and tolerance with the mating part. These dimensions are recorded and can be provided in the final report
- All shaft floats or pre-loads are set according to factory specifications or customer specifications
- All gear boxes are to be test run for 4 hours. Load testing can be done
